How to get to Patlian lake?

A 45 minutes hiking trek leads you to Patlian lake Neelum valley, from its base camp, which needs about 3 hours to drive on a jeep from Lawat, Kashmir. You can go to see its glorious views by bike, but I strongly recommend you hire a four-by-four Jeep from Lawat, till Patlian lake Base camp.

It remains closed for tourists in other months due to blocking of roads and heavy snowfall. So the best time to visit Patlian lake would be June to August as most of its snow would go vanish and you could be able to admire all its exquisite views.

Baboon valley is located at an elevation of 3871 meters, in the same district of Patlian lake, The Neelum valley district of Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir. It is one of the most adventurous tourist places in Neelum valley known as Baboon Top.

Muzaffarabad to Patlian lake

If you are coming from Muzaffarabad the historical capital city of Azad Kashmir, keep driving on Neelum valley road, and remember from the Kundal Shahi area on the same road you have to take right, otherwise, you will reach beautiful Kutton village, Neelum valley.

On this road along with a noisy river of cold and transparent water named River Neelum will be your partner at the foot of lush green mountains.

After seeing Dhani waterfall and Neelum Jehlum dam you will see Indian occupied Kashmir at your right. This area's name is Chilehana village, known as the crossing point between Azad Kashmir and Indian occupied Kashmir.

But these days this crossing point is non-operational due to unilateral and unfair moves taken by the Indian government in 2019. You can see the Teetwal sector on another side of the Neelum river. However, get back to our subject, From Muzaffarabad to Lawat is about 140 km that you crossing some of the most visited tourists destinations like Jagran, Islampur, Athmuqam, Neelum valley Natural Park, and Keran. While traveling to Patlian lake, Lawat Azad Kashmir is your destination from you have to choose if you want to hire a jeep or not, you can go ahead by bike as well but I just told you my recommendations above.

Patlian lake from Lawat is about 40 km but the bad condition of the road and some springs on the way make it hazardous to reach Patlian lake base camp that's why it takes about 3 to 4 hours to reach Patlian base camp from here.

Facilities at Patlian lake base camp

It is all there at Patlian base camp for tourists, You can get tents for a night stay with hot blankets and mattresses, hot tea or coffee, several food dishes to choose from to eat, as well as breakfast services at a nominal price.


Necessary items for Patlian lake trek

In presence of all these facilities don't forget to bring hiking necessities along with you, like waterproof shoes, minimum of two pairs of socks, a raincoat, a water bottle, sun-blocking cream, a hot jacket, or a shawl, and necessary medicines.

Some tourists feel headaches and difficulties to breath due to its elevation so keep your necessary items with you.


Keep Patlian lake clean and green

In the end, keep your atmosphere and surroundings clean and hygenic, Patlian lake is one of the most adorable lakes I have ever seen so it's our responsibility to keep it as beautiful as we see it.
