Gwadar Seaport

Gwadar has become world-famous for its magnificent location and state-of-the-art port under construction. The city is of great importance to the whole of Central Asia Gwadar port is located 630 km west of Karachi on the Arabian Sea in the province of Balochistan.

It is a deep water harbor and its depth is 14 meters, the most important thing about the harbor is that the water is hot on the part of the sea where it is located. The hot water section can be used for shipping all year round.

According to experts, the port of Gwadar facilitates trade with 152 countries of the world by 4760 ships. Construction of a 21st century modern port in Gwadar, a city with a 60 km coastline, is nearing completion. Its importance is increasing day by day.

Gwadar History

The history of Gwadar is very old and long. Gwadar is a mixture of two words one is "Gwa" and the other is "Dar" of Baloch language. "Gwa" means wind in Balochi language and "Dar" means door, Gwadar literally means wind door, here the wind blows all year round.

This area has been a part of Iran for thousands of years. It was ruled by Alexander the Great 300 years before Christ. Nine hundred years later, the Muslims conquered this area and 1783 marked the turning point in the history of Gwadar.

When the then ruler of Gwadar, Khan of Kalat, Mir Naseer Khan, handed over the area to Oman for an indefinite period. King Taimoor was the ruler of Oman at that time.

It is said that the daughter of Khan of Kalat was married to his prince and this area was given to his daughter in dowry by Khan of Kalat.

When Pakistan was formed in 1947, this area was with them. Pakistan wanted Gwadar to become part of Pakistan.

Pakistan enlisted the help of its longtime friend the United States and a geological survey team from the United States surveyed the area and said it could be a good seaport here.

And big ships can come here. Pakistan was seven years old in 1954, Pakistan talked to Oman and ask them to sell Gwadar to Pakistan.

The talks lasted for more than two or three years. Finally, on December 8, 1958, Oman sold Gwadar to Pakistan for five and a half Billion rupees. On July 1, 1977, Gwadar joined Balochistan.

Development in Gwadar

Development work started on Gwadar port. Part of the project was completed in March 2007. Gwadar Port was inaugurated by the then President Pervez Musharraf on March 20, 2007.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Governor Balochistan Owais Ahmed Ghani were also present on the occasion. China provided 248 million dollars for the development of the port.

Gwadar Population

The population of Gwadar, a city with a coastline of 60 km, protrudes like a hammerhead in the deep sea is about a hundred thousand (100,000).

90% of the people of Gwadar are engaged in fishing. Besides, the Iran-Pakistan border is 159 km away therefore, the residents of Gwadar meet their economic needs from neighboring Iran. CPEC work in progress their that's why the standard of living of the people of Gwadar is improving.
