Lahore is one of the oldest and most important cities in the world. Zinda Dilan Lahore's traditional enthusiasm and liveliness are rightly called the heart of Pakistan.
With more than ten million people it is the second-largest city in Pakistan. It is the Capital city of the province of Punjab in Pakistan as well as the center of provincial political, cultural, educational, and economic activities.
It is called the city of gardens because of its gardens and natural beauty. The river Ravi flowing to the west has enhanced its beauty.
This Punjabi language saying is also famous because of its history, beauty, and health that "JInne Lahore Nai Takkeya Oo Jameya Nai".
Old Name of Lahore
It is famous about Lahore that years ago the name of this city was Luv Pur because Luv built and his twin brother Kush built Kasur. Luv and Kush were the two sons of the Hindu god Rama, who are mentioned in detail in the Hindu religious book Ramayan.
In beginning, the name of this city was Luv Pur which means the place of Luv Later it came to be called Lahore. Word Lahore is the mixture of two words Luv and Awar in which Awar means fort which means fort of Luv.
Age of Lahore
Lahore was first written about by the Chinese who were passing through Lahore on their way to India in 630 AD.
It is well known that this settlement was settled by the people of Ram Chandra Ji's son Luv. In Rajput documents, its name is Luv Pur as well. The famous tourist from ninth century AD Al-Idrisi has named it Lahwar.
These ancient references indicate that the city was important throughout history. In fact, this city is located on the Ravi river bank makes it very important. Lahore is mentioned in the world ranking events which proves its importance.
Who ruled Lahore
In the ending decades of the seventh century AD, Lahore was the seat of king Gujjar Chauhan. According to history in 1082 AD when Muslims came to rule here this city has never been a part of the Hindu Empire.
Mahmud Ghaznavi appointed his favorite slave Malik Ijaz as the Governor of Lahore who laid the foundation of Lahore as well as built a wall around the city. His shrine is still known as the first Muslim shrine in Lahore at the outer Texali gate.
During the first eight rulers of the Ghaznavi dynasty, the Lahore system was run by provincial governors. However, during the period of Masood Sani, the capital was temporarily shifted to Lahore.
After that, the twelfth ruler of the Ghaznavi family made Lahore the capital city once again. And lasted this status until the fall of the Ghaznavid dynasty.
After the fall of the Ghaznavi dynasty, Lahore became the center of conspiracies against the state.
Lahore ruled by Mughal Empire
From 1524 AD to 1752 AD Lahore was a part of the Mughal Empire. Who were in fact engaged in construction work and who made great constructions in India and adorned India with beautiful buildings.
The Mughals also founded various historical and notable sites in Lahore, with the Badshahi Mosque topping the list which was built during the reign of Aurangzeb Alamgir.
Ancient Buildings in Lahore
Lahore was the capital city of the Mughal Empire from 1585 AD to 1598 AD. In 1646 AD princess Jahan Aara ordered to build a garden on the river Ravi called Chaubrji which is also known as Chauburji gate. princess was used to coming here for her poetry writings.
In 1673 AD Aurangzaib Alamgir was built and the mosque was named Badshahi Masjid which is one of the largest mosques in the world today. The Tomb of Asif Jah is one of the beautiful tombs/buildings of the Mughal era.
Its courtyard is 528 feet wide and 538 feet long so about a hundred thousand people can offer Namaz at the same time. The height of each of the four minarets of the mosque is 176 feet.
Sikh Ruled Lahore
In 1739 AD Nadir Shah and in 1751 AD Ahmad Shah Abdali ruled here in Lahore. Afterward, Sikhs ruled here and divided the city into three parts.
Labna Singh, Ranjeet Singh, and Gujjar Singh were the rulers of these three parts of Lahore. They expanded their state to some parts of today's Kashmir, Multan Sindh, and Rajhistan.
British Empire Ruled Lahore
In 1849 AD British Empire took over the rule and ruled here in the Indo-Pak subcontinent since 1947 AD and made some necessary arrangements for development.

On March 23, 1940, the city of Lahore received a unique honor because on that day, the All India Muslim League, under the chairmanship of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, passed a resolution on Pakistan. As a result of that resolution Muslim community got their own sovereign country.
