The research of geologists on the Salt Range and its adjoining area in Chakwal is that this area was the sea millions of years ago and then the sea dried up and the land changed its shape with time. Today we have fields, orchards, settlements, forests, and mountains.

The scary view made my visit adventurous

There are thousands of years old natural caves in these mountains of Salt Range Chakwal. Some of these accessible caves are located at a distance of 3 km from Choa Saidan Shah Tehsil of Chakwal District.

Access to these is very easy. Some caves are just above the road and others have to endure some hardship to reach.

The view inside these caves is terrifying. Dark and hanging rocks offer a terrifying sight. I went deep inside with my son Abdullah but my presence did not encourage Abdullah and he started stubbornly to return back.

2800 Years old well

According to Hindu historical belief, Raja Pandu, the father of Hindu Raja Arjuna, and his brothers spent a year here three thousand years ago.

Going up to these caves, there is an old well which is known to be 2800 years old. And it was prepared by the five sons of Raja Pandu.

The well has been taken into custody by the Archaeological Department and has been fenced off. It is not known whether the well has water or is dry.

There is no information book here for guidance from the Archaeological Department. Some of this information has been obtained through personal effort.

Chakwal district has a history of thousands of years, if researched, it has a rich cultural heritage with Gandhara and Moenjodaro, Harappa, Mesopotamia, Egyptian civilizations.

There is a need for those responsible to be involved in the relevant department so that this archeological site of Pakistan which is located in Salt Range Chakwal can be researched in the best way so that those who are interested in visiting historical places can travel to Pakistan.
